Dublin, Ireland Itinerary: 3 Perfect Days

This 3 days in Dublin itinerary plans Trinity College, the historic west and the coast at Howth day by day, with euro costs, the best time of year to visit Dublin in Ireland, seasonal weather and a Google Maps link for every stop. The centre is small — you can walk from Trinity College to the Guinness Storehouse in half an hour — so three days is enough for the museums, the Georgian squares and a half-day by the sea. Each day stays in one part of the city: the south centre first, then the Liffey's north side and the historic west, and finally the DART run out to Howth.

Best time to visit

May to September gives the longest days and the mildest weather, with June and July busiest. April and October are quieter and still walkable. Winter is grey and damp but the museums are free and the city is at its most relaxed.

Getting around

The centre is compact and best covered on foot. A Leap Visitor Card covers buses, the Luas tram and the DART coastal train for unlimited travel, which pays off on the Howth day. Taxis are easy to find but traffic is slow at rush hour.

Dublin, Ireland itinerary questions

Is 3 days in Dublin enough?
Yes. Three days covers Trinity College and the Book of Kells, the national museums, Dublin Castle and the cathedrals, the Guinness Storehouse and a half-day by the sea at Howth without rushing. A fourth day suits a trip to Glendalough or the Cliffs of Moher.
How much does 3 days in Dublin cost?
Budget roughly €140–€250 per person per day for a mid-range trip — about €420–€750 for three days excluding flights. Free national museums keep sightseeing costs low; hotels are the biggest variable.
What is the best time to visit Dublin?
May to September for the mildest weather and long evenings, with September quieter than midsummer. March brings St Patrick's Day crowds and higher hotel rates.
Do I need a car in Dublin?
No. The centre is walkable and the DART, Luas and buses reach everywhere in this itinerary. A car is only worth it for trips further into Wicklow or the west.
How do I get from Dublin Airport to the city?
Airlink and other coaches run to the centre in about 30 minutes for roughly €8–€12. Taxis take a similar time and cost around €30 depending on traffic.
